In my recent blog we discussed Number sequence clean up function in Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations. In this post will look into Number sequence preallocation function in Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations.

Organization administration| Number sequences| Number sequences then move to Performance fast tab “

As illustrated in the following diagram, the preallocation function mechanism is to allocate quantity of number sequence then the system identify the Next and Largest number. After the largest number used, the Next number sequence under General fast tab will be incremented automatically.

The preallocation is only activated if the number sequence is set for none-continues and it is recommended to have the quantity not less than 5, and if the user set the quantity less than 5 the system will popup a message indicate this recommendation, as shown in the following screen shot:

Assuming that we have a number sequence just created. The next number sequence in General fast tab is 1.

Activate the preallocation and set quantity as 5.

Create a general journal and voucher line, the voucher number is 1.

The number sequence updated as the following, Next number sequence under general tab is 6 (largest number sequence in performance fast tab + 1).

Next number sequence under performance fast tab represents the number sequence that will be used.

Largest number sequence under performance fast tab represents the largest allocated number sequence.
